Streak Plate Technique — Virtual Microbiology Practical

Perform a simulated streak plate technique on a working laboratory bench. You will handle the sterile Petri dish, inoculating loop, bacterial culture, Bunsen burner and incubator in the correct sequence.

The main principle of the streak plate method is the progressive dilution of microorganisms across the agar surface so that individual cells become sufficiently separated to produce isolated colonies.

Simulation note: The incubation period in this virtual practical is shortened to 2 minutes for demonstration. Actual microbial incubation requires an appropriate temperature, medium and a considerably longer period depending on the organism.

Colony Morphology Observation

The simulated incubation is complete. Observe the colonies on the agar surface and select the description that best matches the displayed morphology.
